Global Mobility Specialist, Burnaby, BC Office

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is analytical, detail-oriented, data-driven, and organized, and who loves making the lives of others’ easier by using their knowledge and research skills in the field Global Mobility. This role will be responsible for managing the assignment lifecycle, assisting both leaders and employees.

We are a global performance consulting company of about 200 employees. We might be small but we currently work in 11 countries, with domestic transfers and expat assignments happening regularly. We are celebrating 35 years in 2018, and we have been named one of Canada's Best Managed Companies for six consecutive years.

For this position, we're looking for someone with experience in mobility and education/certification in a related field.

A day in your life may include:

  • Staying on top of our upcoming project assignment needs, dates and locations through daily discussions, calls and emails with Business Unit Leaders, office staff and through use of our BambooHR and internal software systems.
  • Connecting on calls with our 150+ field project managers to chat about upcoming assignments, preferences and possibilities.
  • Preparing detailed analysis of anticipated assignment costs, including pay, benefits, allowances and associated taxes, using knowledge of international compensation calculations.
  • Discussing the full-cycle of a move prior to offer stage with Business Unit Leader and employee, offering high-quality consultation pertaining to issues such as cost considerations, immigration and relocation requirements, and impact to employee. With this, we're trying to go into each assignment with full awareness, avoiding missteps while providing the employee an exceptional experience.
  • Working closely with our payroll, benefits, HR, relocation, visa and accounting staff to discuss the nuances of each case.
  • Working closely with and providing vacation relief for our relocation, immigration and safety coordinator.
  • Working alongside our recruiting team to provide valuable insight into needs, candidates and recruitment timing. In time, and with your experience, recruiting and this position will grow closer together.
  • Administering the internal Business Unit Transfer process.
  • Providing expertise and recommendations on employee moves including structuring international and domestic assignment packages
  • Conducting market analysis and benchmarking review for compensation, mobility and relocation program components, including competitive market data and cost analysis for implementation.
  • Having a working knowledge of foreign assignment matters (payroll, accounts payable, relocation, tax, and compensation and benefits) and ability to work with related departments and teams.


  • Are a people-person who is comfortable interacting on the phone, in person and virtually by Skype or email.
  • Are a strategic thinker with ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Are confident and articulate, ability to influence, consult with, and present ideas throughout all organizational levels.
  • Have a can-do attitude with the ability to react calmly in a pressurized situation.
  • Have impeccable accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have comfort using computer systems, including PC and MS Office programs, plus new systems like BambooHR and other HRIS.
  • Have excellent communications skills, including ability to treat all employees with tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
  • Have flexibility to take occasional calls in off-hours as needed by the nature of our international business.
  • Have a passion for working with and learning from individuals from various countries/cultures.

Selection criteria will include:

  • The ideal candidate will have previous experience and demonstrated success in mobility at a company with a global workforce and both domestic (Canada/US) and international personnel moves.
  • A bachelor’s or Associate's degree in business, law, accounting (taxation) human resources or other related field.
  • Coursework and certification in subject areas specifically related to mobility and possibly immigration.
  • Your experience with and knowledge of recruitment. You may even come from a recruiting background.
  • Knowledge of global immigration and processes. You may even come from an immigration background.
  • Previous experience with a multi-site, international multi-function organization is important.
  • Good understanding of international tax and social security and practical knowledge of payroll matters, such as split pay and shadow pay.
  • Ability to research, interpret and analyze material from a range of different sources.
  • Ability to work on assignments and cases that are complex in nature, requiring judgement in resolving issues or making recommendations.
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and manage through to completion multiple deliverables simultaneously and with minimal guidance.
