RLG International's TMP® (for Theoretical Maximum Performance) tool is used for critical work such as equipment rebuilds and turnarounds by identifying innovative ways to optimize execution of the task. It focuses on communication, coordination, contingency, and creativity. Participants are challenged to imagine what is possible by assuming the "perfect world", with unlimited resources, no delays, mistakes, problems, or shutdowns to reach the theoretical maximum, 100% uptime, for each part of the operation. The TMP process is not intended to set a new impossibly difficult target. To the contrary, the teams identify a set of opportunities to be pursued and risks to be mitigated to improve the realistic execution of the work.
