FAIR® Model

F.A.I.R.® ModelThe FAIR® Model is the framework on which we base our performance improvement and coaching. The four components of the FAIR® Model are Focus, Accountability, Involvement, and Response. Each leader is coached to use the principles of the FAIR® Model within his or her own area of responsibility. Coupled with clear RLG deliverables and tools, the outcome is improved bottom-line results.

Focus: RLG partners with leaders and managers to develop clear operational measures based on company strategies. Measures will include safety, quality, production, cost, and customer satisfaction. These measures form the basis for planning, operational control, and feedback.

Accountability: RLG collaborates with managers to develop an atmosphere where employees will stand up to talk about their results-oriented achievements, the challenges they face, and how to continue to improve. The bottom-line is that we assist the front-line to participate in improving the business.

Involvement: Beyond being held accountable for results, employees need to be able to make decisions that will positively affect those results. This requires accurate and timely feedback of data results and an environment that values their contributions. RLG works one-on-one with managers to understand their part of the business and develop action plans to improve results. RLG will work with the Carson refinery leadership team to develop performance improvement teams that will focus on high-leverage opportunities.

Response: Communication regarding performance (objective data or observed performance) with the employee is one of the most effective and least costly management techniques. The ability to respond with effective feedback, either positive or negative, is key to improving performance. People need to be aware of what is expected in their work performance and how well they are doing in relation to those expectations. RLG works with each manager to develop a straightforward system that the manager will use to provide both formal and informal feedback.
