A Success Story at a US Oil and Gas Company

Strengthening Overall Safety Culture

Key Objectives

This rig is considered by many to be the pride of the company's drilling rig fleet. Over the past few years, the rig has drilled several world record wells. The company asked RLG to come aboard to work with the team in an effort to strengthen the rig's front line leadership and its overall safety culture. RLG was introduced to the rig in June 2006.

The rig achieved a major milestone of five years with no Lost Time Accidents (LTAs) in late 2006, followed by no recordable incidents for one year in April 2007. On April 17, 2008, the rig passed two years without a recordable incident.

The rig had one small reportable spill in 21 months.

During the project, the drilling team was able to complete 30 wells at 76% to AFE.

"By my records today marks one year without a recordable incident for the crews . This is a goal I've had for the rig team for some time and it's nice to finally reach it. Although you folks can't claim all the credit, I feel your efforts have played a big part in improving the HSE awareness and consequently the results for this rig. Thank you very much for all that you've done for the people on [the rig] and myself."
