"LEADERSHIP", It has no title...

Anchorage, AK – March 9, 2008 – Sincere, honest, grounded and authentic are just a few of the words used in the latest Alaska Tanker Company newsletter (Northern Lights) to describe RLG employees after their voyage on the Alaskan Legend a couple months ago.

The article went on to say. . ."RLG offered that rare opportunity to have on board in our own work environment, coaching, skill building and real time feedback while we are dealing with the real time issues. They bridge the gap from when we leave ELT conferences to actual application, which in some cases could be a couple of months. They are the real deal!"

Announcing RLG’s Best of the Best Awards in St. Andrews, Scotland

Vancouver, BC – April 27, 2007 – RLG International is excited to announce the location of this year’s Best of the Best Awards. On October 4-5, 2007, RLG will host their annual corporate awards ceremony and Client Forum at the Fairmont St. Andrews Hotel in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland – the historic birthplace of the sport of golf.

RLG International’s annual Best of the Best Awards, established in 1989, represents the highest level of project excellence and achievement within our company. This award recognizes and honours our clients and project managers who have modeled the highest level of excellence in our craft over the previous year.

Each year, nominated projects are put forward for consideration to a Best of the Best Selection committee composed of RLG employees from various levels of the company, where they are scrutinized against a specific set of criteria. The project must meet pre-set standards in the following categories:

  • Outstanding Bottom-line Results
  • Clear Implementation Process- FAIR, TMP or SAFER
  • Client Satisfaction
  • Marketing and Tourability
  • Sustainability
  • Project Manager Excellence

After careful deliberation, those projects that meet and exceed these criteria are awarded “Best of the Best” designation. All nominees and recipients of the award are honoured in a traditional annual awards banquet and celebration, held each fall, and attended by clients, RLG employees and guests.

Preceding the evening ceremonies is a day-long client forum, where clients, employees and guests have the opportunity to meet, talk and learn through interactive workshops and keynote speakers. RLG’s 2006 Client Forum featured keynote speakers D. Michael Abrashoff (author of It’s Your Ship and Get Your Ship Together), Canadian Senator Larry Campbell, and Jerry Sternin (founder of the Positive Deviance Initiative). Stay tuned for upcoming announcements regarding this year’s keynote speakers.

Five B.C. firms among best managed in Canada

Michael Kane, Vancouver Sun
Published: Thursday, February 08, 2007

Five B.C. firms in very different businesses found out Wednesday that they have one thing in common -- they are among the 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada.

The B.C. winners named by Deloitte, the consulting firm, are:

- Coast Capital Savings of Surrey, Canada's second largest credit union and the first full-service financial institution in Canada to introduce free chequing. It is also the best corporate citizen in the financial services industry, according to Imagine Canada, and one of Canada's 50 best employers, according to Hewitt Associates.

- Vancouver's ITC Group of Companies -- the name stands for Integrity, Trust and Commitment -- which specializes in building residential highrises in Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Current projects include the Woodward's redevelopment project in downtown Vancouver.

- Thrifty Foods of Saanichton, the largest private-sector employer on Vancouver Island, now in its 30th year with 19 stores and planning to open its third Lower Mainland store in Port Moody next year. Thrifty pioneered organic produce in mainstream supermarkets.

- Vancouver's RLG International, a performance improvement specialist with 130 employees currently working with companies in Azerbaijan, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Trinidad, Russia, the U.S.A and the U.K. Project managers and their families relocate to client sites to better help companies develop their staff.

- Richmond's uniPHARM Wholesale Drugs Ltd., a pharmaceutical wholesaler owned by 112 independent shareholder pharmacists, including five in Alberta where it started to expand about two years ago. Launched in 1980 as an alternative to drug wholesalers catering to chain stores, the firm now has 51 employees and sales in excess of $147 million.

Deloitte says this year's 50 winners achieved some of the strongest financial results since the program's inception 14 years ago with consolidated sales of more than $8.3 billion in 2006.

The B.C. winners accounted for an impressive 19 per cent of total sales "but it's not just about cash generation for them," said Daryl Johannesen, regional leader for the Best Managed program with Deloitte in Vancouver.

"The real driving force behind the success of these exceptional companies is a collective sense of accomplishment in achieving a vision and defining their own destiny."

Coast Capital is a sixth-time winner of the award which Lloyd Craig, president and CEO, attributes to the 340,000-member credit union's disciplined approach to business and the fact that its 1,760 employees never forget they are operating in an industry that is over-supplied and highly competitive.

"That forces us to be innovative because only if we put a better value proposition on the street can we fulfil our mission, which is providing simple financial help," Craig said in an interview.

In addition to free chequing, Coast Capital has introduced "haggle-free" deposits and mortgages which offer the credit union's best rates to everybody, extended hours in 25 per cent of its 49 branches, and a new "aperio" branch design which is intended to create an open, inviting and friendly environment in which to conduct business.

In addition to Deloitte, the Best Managed program is sponsored by CIBC, the National Post, and Queen's School of Business.
